This stand out vintage bears the imprint of an early Spring, followed by a slow and steady ripening season with glorious summer days and cool nights offering a perfect opportunity to create outstanding wine. Potent aromas of blackberry jam laced with Zinfandel spice make an enticing first impression, lavishly surrounded by floral notes of violet and herbs of Provence.  The mid-palate has a streak of ripe licorice and cherries that embody its Rutherford terroir with a sense of elegance for such a large scaled wine. The finish is supported by subtle tones of scorched earth, cocoa, and toasted barrel notes, which glide into a long, silky finish.

Typical of the grape, the 2016 McGah Family Petit Verdot is dark and strong with floral aromas reminiscent of lavender and lilac. Layered with blueberry and blackberry flavors, this wine’s ripe tannins lead to a sensual, round and dense mouthfeel. Fully ripened black fruits and chocolate notes are framed by rich coconut and hints of tobacco. Smoother than most Petit Verdots, the aged vines and block location contribute unique characteristics that display exceptional intensity & structure coupled with rich dark berry elements and subtle yet firm tannins. Drink now with a long decant or lay this down for three to four years to allow all dimensions to come together. Mike Smith, Winemaker
